Science Fairs and Formatura
The end of the school year is upon us and that means lots of fun school events. Pace, Grant, and Louis all had a science fair. And since they study science in english, they even got to share in their native tongue. Pace's group shared about the digestive system. And they had a very thourough demonstration of the digestive process (showing how bananas and crackers are broken down and passed through the body). Grant's group studied magnatism and did an experiment involving spinning coins. Louis's group studied optical illusions and how they work. They had some fun ones to share.
Here in Brazil finishing first grade is a big deal. They throw big formal graduation parties for the kids (Formatura), so we celebrated him with his class. The party happened a month before school got out, so I feel like the year is already wrapping up. They had a big ceremony that included caps and gowns and fun entrances for each child. Louis chose "Level Up" from the Mario soundtrack for his entrance song. It was a fun to celebrate Louis, and all the other kids loved the party as well. And the kids played so hard...Jane passed out on her bed after.
Jane also had a fun school event. She will be starting school this next school year (starting February), but one Saturday they had a welcome day for new students. So she spent the morning with Jake exploring her new school and playing fun games.
Another fun school event was the Terry Fox Run, a school run to earn money for cancer research. Originally I was going to run with Pace, Grant, and Louis, but I ended up stepping on a jelly fish during my walk on the beach. My body over reacted and I had a swollen foot for about a week. So Jake took my place and took all the kids (to give me some time to relax with my foot up). They all had a blast...except Jane who was so bored she fell asleep in the stroller.
Now there are only 2 weeks of school left and the kids are getting ready for summer break.
