So much History in Joao Pessoa
On our third Saturday we decided to visit the historic center of Joao Pessoa. We started by visiting Centro Cultural Sao Francisco. It is an old monastary which is now used as a cultural center. It first became a monastary in 1589, so really old. It was beautiful and our kids were so happy and animated there. It was such a fun experience for us all.
We also loved the views of the are from the top floor.
The neighborhood around was also very colorful and had other historic buildings. So we took a little stroll along the block and found a self serve place to eat at for lunch.
At a party we had a friend suggest an old fort that we should visit. So the next weekend we decided to go take a tour. And it was pretty fun to check it out. We found out that several battles happened here. It was built by the Portuguese in the late 1500s. It was attacked by both the French and the Dutch, but the Portuguese held their ground. It has deteriorated over time, but has been restored several times, so today it is in pretty good condition.
We also found a nest of burrowing owls and lots of bees that called the fort their home.
Beyond sightseeing we are trying to make hotel living feel more like home. We are getting pretty sick of eating out, but we at least bought a sandwich maker so we can eat lunch at the hotel. We are getting pretty good at playing hide and go seek in our hotel room. We've also been trying to go play at the beach a lot while we are living so close. Jake and I have started taking turns running on the beach every night.
Jane has made friends with a horse that parks near our hotel every morning.
And here's a few pictures from our nightly walks to restaurants.
