Kamakura Fun
For Martin Luther King weekend we took a day trip down to Kamakura. We'd never visited Kamakura before, but we mostly just wanted to go hiking and we found a great trail. The Tenen trail. It was a peaceful walk with bamboo forests, rock formations, and stunning views of Fuji and the coast. It connected temples in the area, but we didn't take the time to explore them. The kids complained the whole drive down, but then they loved the hike.
After the hike we headed to the famous Buddha of Kamakura. It was fun, definately amazing that after 750 years he is doing so well. The older boys and I even check out the inside, which felt pretty much like you would expect a hollow statue to feel like inside. But the boys loved it.
We got some icecream to tide us over and then spent some time at the beach. It was too cold for getting wet, but we had fun looking for shells and throwing rocks in and just playing in the sand. We love the soft sand here.
Needless to say it was a wonderfulday and we had perfect weather. The complaints that started the day turned into happy comments about their favorite activities. And we even caught a beautiful view of Fuji on the way home.
