A Wedding in Gettysburg
I got to travel to Gettysburg see my baby brother get married! Added bonuses are I got to explore Gettysburg for the first time with my parents and some of my brothers and see two of Jake's sisters. It was such a fun whirlwind trip, but so glad to see my family. Jane and I were the only ones to go and Jake held the fort. I was reminded how hard it is to travel long flights with a one year old. Those toddler years may be the toughest. Jane was cliumbing in my neighbors laps, pulling their beard, being tired and cranky, and wanting to crawl the isles. So luckily there were no delays or anything on the way out.
We made it to Philly exhausted, and happy to have Crystal there to pick us up at the airport. That night we slept like rocks. The next day Jane wanted to sleep all day. I let her sleep until 2 pm (and then she didn't sleep the next night!) and then we went to play with Jackie's family. Crystal came over and we had fun catching up.
The next morning we played pickleball with some of Jackies friends, took a nap and had dinner all together again. Then Jane and I drove out to Gettysburg to see my family. We saw Ben, Beth, Stephanie, Mike, and my parents that night.
We went to see the sights of Gettysburg all together after that. I had previously watched Gettysburg the movie, and it made my visit so much better, because I could recognise places with battles and people from the movie. The leaves were beautiful fall colors, so it was the perfect time to be there. If you look close one of the pictures is a memorial to some units from my home area in Ohio, so cool!
The next day my mom, Steph, and I went for a walk in the woods. It was lovely and those ladies are fast walkers. Then I got back and my friend Caroline came to surprise me. We spent the afternoon playing phase 10 and catching up. Then we all helped get flowers prepared for the wedding and then got ready for the rehersal dinner (Jane and I decided to just sit out of the rehersal since it might be tougher with a baby). We got dressed up and joined everyone for the rehersal dinner. It was at a fun historical restaurant and everyone had a good time.
The wedding the next day was picture perfect. The weather was lovely, the ceremony went smoothly, and we all had fun celebrating at the wedding. Congrats to my brother Zach, Kelly is an amazing person. So glad to have her in the family and so happy for them both! I forgot to metion that I loved that they planted a plant together as part of their ceremony. At the reception Sam gave a really cute and meaningful best man speach about a game thast they used to play as kids, and how Zach is still playing it today just with Kelly. Anyway it was a lovely wedding and I saw a lot of extended family there as well.
The next moring we all had breakfast together. We packed up our stuff and drove back to Philly to eat dinner at Jackie's house. We had a had a good evening together and then we tried to get some sleep for our big flight home. Jackie took us to the airport and we caught our first flight, but it was really delayed and we ended up having to stay the night in Toronto because we missed our flight. We just relaxed in the hotel, got a good breakfast and flew home the next day. Jane did so much better on the flight and I felt more rested on the flight back. So even though it was a lot of travel for a short trip, it was so worth it for our fun visit.
While we were gone Jake did take the kids on a fun adventure into Tokyo to visit a model store. They also checked out the surrounding neighborhood, which had some cool sights (including a Godzilla!).
