Seiko Lake and Aokagahara Forest
I needed to be out in nature and hike. So I found a fun area to explore with great views of Mt Fuji, a cool lava field forest, and some caves to boot. I didn't do all my research and check the weather or altitude of the area. It ended up being beautifully sunny, which was needed because the weather was in the low thirties. It was cold! But beautiful and we continued on despite one of us peeing their pants...that child was tough and decided to carry on. We started at Seiko Lake and enjoyed the views. We also found a great shoe skating area, which kept us entertained for quite some time.
Then we went for a hike through Aokagahara forest. This forest is actually a lava field from a previous Fugi eruption which has grown forest over it. It creates cool rock formations, caves, and hills. It almost has an erie feel about it. We also tried to go to the Bat Cave, but it was closed, so we hiked back to our car.
Once back in the car we drove (we were too cold to keep walking) over to a couple other caves. We went to the Dragon Cave, Wind Cave, and Ice Cave. And then we saw a perfect view of Mt Fuji on our drive home.
I forgot to mention that the wind cave had the remains of silk worm storage in it.The harvesters would keep the silk worms down in the cave to keep them cooler and just bring them up when they wanted them to produce silk. This would lengthen the silk harvesting season.
