She is Here!

 She is here! Jane Kathleen, 7lbs 15oz, 20 "

She is beautiful with a full head of dark hair and a cute little nose. The boys love her, and are so sweet looking out for her. She is a pretty calm baby, and we love her little grunts and cries they are just too adorable. We think she looks a lot like Louis as a baby and a lot like me as a baby. But that could just be the dark hair.

And I always like to record the birth story so here it is with all the details. And I must say I am pretty proud that I made a birthday cake while in early labor.

I had contractions starting around 2:30 am on October 20. I couldn't sleep. But they were too far apart. They hurt and were strong all day, but sometimes close usually more than 10 minutes apart. I still went grocery shopping. Then I picked up lunch from Dana Chula for Jake's birthday. Then I made cake. I even gave Grant a piano lesson. Then when I got Kai up from his nap he wanted me to hold him all the time. I knew I couldn't do it anymore. I told him to come home. I took a relaxing bath. My contractions slowed down a bit and I decorated the cake.

I bought everything for dinner just had to warm it up. And we celebrated Jake's birthday (even if I was a bit grumpy).

Jake printed out BYU birthday masks

Jake put the boys down. I relaxed and my contractions stayed around 10 minutes apart. We watched a show then tried to get some sleep. I must have slept a bit because 2 hrs went by and I only remember 4 or 5 contractions. Then I was so uncomfortable I had to get up and move around. Then I tried laying on my other side. Jane was kicking so hard it hurt almost as much as the contractions. Kai started waking up, probably because I was groaning and moving around. Jake went to help him twice. During the second time I had a huge painful contraction and then right at the end I felt a pop (maybe even heard because it was so distinct). Minutes later I had a contraction and fluid was gushing all over the bed. I ran to the bathroom got a towel. Noticed that the fluid looked tan like it had meconium in it. Told Jake to call the hospital, because that made me nervous because it had caused distress for Pace when he swallowed meconium. Jake also called the Browns to come stay with the boys. This all happened right around 1 (that is the time Jake called the Browns).

Jake was getting our stuff and I was feeling horrible and still dripping fluid. I answered the door for the Browns and was embarrassed because I am sure I looked horrible and miserable and they were cleaning up my mess (I am grateful now... they were so sweet).

We got to the hospital, I wanted to walk, but it was taking so long because I was having contractions so close together. So I gave in and took the wheel chair. It was actually a huge relief to sit down.

We got to the hospital, they hooked me up to the monitors... and I was grumpy with them. Then the nurse asked if I felt like I needed to push and almost right away my body just forced me to push. Her head could already be seen. My body gave me enough time to flip over with my hands leaning on the back of the raised bed and on my knees. I pushed whenever my body took over and told me to. It was probably about 4 or 5 very painful pushes (and painful in between) and she was born. She screamed almost immediately and was as healthy as could be even though the fluid did have meconium. It was a messy event, but so fast. I had only been hooked up to the monitors for 14 minutes.

Pushing out the placenta was miserable. I was very sensitive down below, but there were no stitches needed (Yay!). But they got me cleaned up.

Cuddling and holding Jane was wonderful. She is perfect. Baby Jane started nursing like a champ. And she is so cute. Love my new baby girl.

And here is Kai trying to play with Jane (he loves to growl at people and have them chase him)

  1. I love everything about this - except maybe the pain, but unfortunately that's probably part of the package...
She looks so sweet. I'm glad the boys are taking such good care of her.
    Heal well, my friend!
