I'll be home for Christmas...Remotely

Throughout the pandemic everyone has gotten creative with how to get together remotely.  Because of that our families thought of fun creative ways to share the holidays together.  This has been a super big blessing for us because we have rarely spent Christmas with extended family.  So we are really grateful to them for suggesting such great activities together.  And I hope we will do them again next year.

We acted out the story of Christ's birth with Jake's family.  All the grandkids were the actors and Grandma and Grandpa were the narators.   It was a little bit chaotic and unfocused, but it was absolutely beautiful.  I felt the overwhelming love that our Saviour has for me and all of his children.  The excitement of all the kids was contageous.

Our older boys played the wise men  and Kai was king Harod

We also decorated gingerbread houses.  Each family just provided their own supplies, which for us included graham crackers, left over cream cheese frosting from our Christmas cookies, and candy.  It was a lot of fun and we learned that for future gingerbread decorating events we should really constuct the houses before and let them harden in the fridge before decorating.

The construction begins

Happy boys (despite Grant's roof falling flat)

Some houses didn't fair so well with falling walls...again next year we'll do better

Not pictured, but also included in our remote celebrating was a gift exchange with my siblings and partners, playng online games with my family (Pace loved the t-shirt design game), and my parents joining us for our Christmas morning gift opening.

We also celebrated on our own of course.  One day we went to  see the illuminations at Ashikaga Flower Park.  They had the most elaborate light display I ahve ever seen.  We had a lot of fun exploring them.

On Christmas eve we had Saurbratten and Klose.  Yum, seriously one of my favorite meals ever.  And here are a few pictures from our  Christmas morning.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
