Pace and Grant started school as soon as we were out of quarantine. Pace as a second grader and Grant as a new kindergartner. Pace was so excited to get started after he saw the amazing playground at his new school. Grant was very scared since it was his first formal school away from me. It definately pulled a few heartstrings for both him and me. He was brae and went despite tears and has kept going back. I think he is starting to enjoy it, although he is still rather cautious about speaking to his teachers. He loves the new friends though.
While the bigger two were in school Louis, Kai, and I explored new parks in the neighborhood.
A few days after the kids started school we were ale to move into our new house. It was very stressful. They offered the house to us on a Wednesday, which meant we had to move in that day or start paying for our hotel ourselves. Jake had an important meeting so he wasn't able to help out. We also didn't have a car or driving permits for Japan. Luckily some amazing ladies stepped up to make our move possible. Jessica watched the boys while Cami helped me pack our stuff into her van. We packed it completely full. It took us a little longer than expected so luckily Jessica could be at our house when the movers came with our loaner furniture. I could not have done it without these two amazing ladies. So thankful for their help. And so thankful I am getting a chance to know them better.
Here are some pictures of our new place. We're on the end of a quadraplex. It's pretty plain and warehouse looking, but we'll make it into a home.
Soon after moving in we took the test wich allowed us to drive in Japan. We can now get around on our own (phew), albeit a bit cautiously as we adjust to driving on the left. There are a lot of times the windshield wipers come on instead of the turn signal, and a few times of accidently finding myself driving on the wrong side of the road. I am getting better, and Jake is pretty much already a pro.
With our new found freedom we were able to try out a sushi and a ramen restaurant (on two different days). The boys loved the conveyor belt at the sushi place, but stuck to the fried chicken. The ramen place they loved and even gave it their own name (since we have no idea how to pronounce the Japanese name yet). They call it Happy Go Ducky, because it is right across from a Don Quiote (which has a very duck looking penguin on the outside).
We also found a dessert place near to us that sells the waffle ice cream cones in delicious flavors like apple tart, and almond flourentine. Yum! They also create the cutest little desserts ever
And we are so happy that we found out we will be able to meet in person for church here every other week. We have an english speaking ward because of the military base, which of course we need

I love the picture of your whole family - I can see Grant hiding back there! Also, it's a lot of lawn to mow, but also a lot of space to play. It looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe boys do love our yard.
