God Bless America

We had a wonderful 4th of July weekend.  One of the great perks of being a military family is that the 4th is a big deal (as it should be).  Jake was able to have a four day weekend.  We took full advantage of our family time together.
On Friday we headed down to Springfield to take Pace to the animal Safari.  Unfortunately on our way down it began to rain and didn't stop.  So we decided to visit the local Bass Pro Shop (which just happens to be the national headquarters).  It was awesome.  It was huge and had hours of fun animals and animal displays.  Including live fish, alligators, and turtles. Those were probably Pace's favorite part. It also had the NRA National Museum (I forget the actual name) and the national archery hall of fame.  Jake enjoyed the history of the army rifles display.  I though it was cool that they had a rifle connected to Napoleon and old west robbers like Jesse James.  What can I say it was a lot of fun for the whole family.

The weather cleared up after lunch so we decided to still go to the animal safari.  And it did not disappoint (although they have a new rule that you can't feed the animals from your car; bummer).   We got to see all the animals with only a little sprinkle while we were driving the loop.

On the 4th we took advantage of the celebration on post.  We saw a Frisbee dog show, enjoyed bouncy houses, and a petting zoo.  Of course we also got a funnel cake.  That was all before a classic rock concert and the fireworks.  My favorite part was the fireworks.  Pace got so excited and even Grant seemed to be transfixed by them.  We were glad to celebrate.  We are thankful to live in this great country and we are proud of Jake for serving.
Pace liked waving to the animals more than petting them

They had some tanks for us to climb on and in

Sunday and Monday we just relaxed and enjoyed the rest of our weekend at home.  So glad we got to spend so much time as a family.
