1. He knows how to make us laugh.
2. He is handy at fixing things around the house.
3. He can grill a mean steak (or chicken breast for that matter).
4. He likes playing board games.
5. He sings us Disney songs.
6. He is a good cook.
7. He does house chores with us.
8. He doesn't complain when Liz drags him hiking or camping (he actually enjoys it).
9. He is good at carrying on conversations with babies (especially Pace and it's really cute).
10. He is a spiritual strength in our family.
11. He is one handsome guy.
That's why we celebrated his birthday in style. We made his choice of dinner: broiled salmon. This year we got a food network magazine that had a birthday cake for every month, so Jake picked out the orange chocolate cake with salted caramel.
Now, I am a pretty good baker, but I usually stick to breads, cookies, and brownies when it comes to cooking completely from scratch. So this was the first time that I made a cake completely from scratch. I even made a ganache to frost it and a salted caramel sauce to drizzle over it. It was a lot of fun to make and made me feel like a accomplished pastry chef :)
