Mother's Day Celebrations and BYU Young Ambassadors
Mother's day has been fun. Usually my kids make cards at school, sing in church for me, and more. This year was no exception. I always tell the kids that that the best gift they could give me is a day without complainning....that hasn't happened yet. But I am really thankful for the love I did feel from my kids and husband.
To start off the celebrations Jane performed in her class mother's day song and dance. It was a very sweet song where she sang about me being her queen. She even made a crown from me. My heart definately melted when she ran over to me to give me an early hug. She also painted me a card to go with it.
Maple Bear also set up a fun photo booth for mother's day. And had a family day where they set up different activities like giant bubbles, beach tennis, pictionary, sand boxes, and crafts that we can all enjoy together as a family.
On the saturday before we had a mother's bay churrasco with out church family. The kids got to swim and we all ate delicious meats, feijoada, and sides. On sunday the kids sang for me at church a beautiful mash up of "Mother I love you" and "Mother tell me a story". It was adorable..even if one of them was too afraid to go up and sing. Still proud of them all. Added bonus was that Jane kept singing, "Mae, eu te amo" (Mother I love you) over and over throughout the day. Jake also made me the most delicious haupia cake with homemade maracuja icecream (this combination is truely heaven in my mouth...not sure there is a better dessert). Then I got to read all my sweet homemade cards (including a concrete poem from Grant!) and open the gifts from Jake. Then Pace and Louis put together two lovely mothers day slide shows. Yes, I was spoiled.
What made this week a bit more fun was added to all the fun mother's day activities was that BYU (yes our alma mater) was doing a Young Ambassadors tour through Brazil and just happened to stop in our town. What kind of crazy coincidence was that?! So we got to take our kids to a BYU performance and it was really amazing. We even got to meet some of the actors..so that was fun.
And everyday moments need to be remembered as well, so I want to share about this precious moment where Jane and Kai played with a cat...like chase the string but with small palm leaves. They were in heaven giggling and chasing after this fun cat that lives at our neighborhood gym. I had so much fun teaching them how to play with the cat.
Grant also created this amazing hanging magna block structure...I was pretty impressed with the engineering of it all. He also built this bridge that he and Pace were actually walking across. I know that he wants to become a geologist, but he's got a lot of architecture in him too. So we'll see what he chooses to do with his talents.
Jane had a play date with her best friend from school...and even got to dress up as princesses.
And on the rainiest day ever Jake and I went on a date. Finally we found the time to do a date outside of our home. And we picked a pretty fun restaurant. Check out this sunflower archway that could brighten any rainy day.
