So, in September we were blessed with visits from Jake's parents and my dad. This is very exciting, as they were our first guests in our new home. Unfortunately we took no pictures (boo, I kept forgetting my camera). The good news is my dad took pictures with his camera while he was here, so I at least have pictures from that.
Jake's parents came to visit on Labor Day weekend. It was before school had started so my days were a lot freer. We had fun showing Jake's parents around their first Army base. We went to the Engineer Museum, which was a must see for his parents. We also took his parents to Meramec Cave. Which was my first guided cave visit here in Missouri. It is a large cave with a lot of history. It was used by Jesse James as a hideout and also used as a black powder plant during the civil war. It also has the only 3 legged table feature in the world (and there are only 2 table features in the whole world) . So it was a pretty unique thing to see. And we always have fun hanging out and playing games. The only one who did not fully enjoy the visit was Penny, she is still having issues with men visiting our house.
My dad also came to visit. He came at the end of the month over Waynesville's homecoming weekend. So he got to see me march in a parade. My dad and I (since Jake had to work Saturday) also went on a canoing trip near the boiling spring campground near Dixon. It was beautiful, and the weather was perfect. That night we took my dad to see the engineer museum and went bowling. And of course we enjoyed hanging out and playing games with him. Even Penny came around and had fun with my dad. Bellow are some of the great pictures that my dad took.

This picture didn't capture it too well, but the boiling spring is over on the other side. This spring get something like 19 million gallons of water a day.

On Sunday we took dad around to see some of the recreational things on post, like some trails, Miller Cave, and the Iraq Border.

Other soldiers giving us a "tour" of Miller Cave, they showed us where all the fools gold is

My favorite part of Miller Cave

And of course we had to take my dad out to the Iraq border :)
The picture of you, Jake, and Penny is adorable!
ReplyDeleteAlso, your hair is getting long again! I like it, but I liked it short, too... maybe I should get my hair chopped off.
And you mentioning that Penny has issues with men reminds me of the dog my mom had as a kid. Wouldn't let any men in the hallway that led to the bedrooms except my grandpa. Because they, too, were on base, there were sometimes issues because of that and any repairs that needed to be made, especially when my grandpa was on ship...
Lastly, I love and miss you. So, when are you coming to Calgary, or when am I visiting you and meeting Penny in Missouri?
